Music for Wedding Receptions

If there's one thing that divides generations, from Grandad down to Grandson it's music.

A wedding is one of the few times when relations get together and celebrate a family occasion and most occasions have got music associated with them at some stage of the proceedings.

So what is the best music to play at wedding receptions?

The answer, I would suggest is, as many different styles as possible!

It may be impossible to please everybody all of the time but it is possible to please most people some of the time. At least that should be the plan when choosing the music for a wedding reception, but who do you get to play it?

To entertain the guests, between the wedding ceremony and the wedding breakfast is what we're talking about here. The time when people are relieved that the ceremony is over, the happy couple are married at last and the guests have got a drink in their hands - albeit a very expensive one!

Looking for an ensemble to play a good mix of music and music styles is not that easy. There are limitations on harpists, string quartets may struggle with some contemporary styles and a jazz ensemble will probably play just jazz.

One way to get a good assortment of music for wedding receptions is to use a flute and guitar player - probably one of the most versatile combinations if you want a good mix of music styles played.
